Madrid Travel Labs Hackathon 20th & 21st January 2018

Fri, 03/23/2018 - 07:02

On January 20th and 21st, we ran the first Ryanair labs public hackathon in our Madrid office.

The event saw the best and brightest of the Spanish development community collaborate with the Ryanair technical team to build 12 different prototypes. The level of innovation was exceptional and showed what can be done when you provide an endless supply of coffee, pizzas and API endpoints!!!

The full list of ideas:

  1. Flight Scout: Find cheaper deals for transportation and services around the flight.
  2. Intercontinental: RYAN bot, travel assistant that interacts with RYR API.
  3. Baloonair: Partnership with Uber to pick up or drop off passengers at the airport
  4. MNTR: Search engine looking for experiences instead of starting by the flight.
  5. Idea 4: Reduce cost of delays by reducing the amounts of delays in boarding.
  6. Pina Developers: Search engine that will enable multiconnection flights and find the most optimal route.
  7. Jugamos en casa: Telegram bot to get information about flights and prices creating an infrastructure layer with bot independency.
  8. DataWhales (Runners up): Data analysis on flight and delay information that will show projections for future scenarios.
  9. B-ryan: Post-sales assistant to create a better travel experience and add facilities to a traveller to get to know the destination cities.
  10. Tea Grim: Application that allows clients to design their own routes around the world according to one-objective optimization criteria (mainly the duration of stay in each place).
  11. Idea 3: Enable new channels for communicating with Ryanair customers by using artificial intelligence. Chatbot that understands natural language and performs tasks that could help its customers it could reach millions of users without spending too many resources. This chatbot could be deployed to travel websites, Skype, Facebook messenger. This presentation included the idea of using Watson
  12. DataFighters (WINNERS): Link Spotify and Ryanair accounts in order to offer flights depending on events of your favourite groups from your playlist.

Now let’s hear what some of our attendees had to say about the event:

“Living this experience put our skills beyond our thoughts, filled our souls with energy to innovate and gave us the chance to meet the most talented people from all over the world. You have to live it.”

“Some workmates and I decided to come to hackathon Madrid with an idea of implementing a bot which used the Ryanair APIs and it was fun, not just because of seeing it working at the end of the weekend, but because of the challenges and the improvements we did by the time, solving legacy issues and looking at the happy faces of people coding!!”

We look forward to even better ideas being worked on at our next hackathon in our Wroclaw office on April 14th and 15th. More information will follow soon…
